Verona Jackson

Verona Lee Chavis Lowry Jackson, 92, of 3054 Oakgrove Church Road, Lumberton NC, departed her earthly life on November 17, 2024. She was at her home surrounded by her loving family. Verona was born on September 26, 1932 to Dannie and Cassie Chavis.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by two brothers: Danny “Cha” and Villie Chavis; seven sisters: Lorainne and Annie Lee Chavis, Louvenia “Tickin” Ledwell, Louise “Shine” Chavis, Ella Mae Davis, Rosetta “Dot” Garrett, and Mary Magdalene “Boot” Lowry; three sons: Angelo, Villie “Wee Wee” and Melton Lowry; two infant great grandchildren Korbon and Kash Locklear; her husband Charlie Jackson and the father of her children Charlie Lowry.

She is survived by her son: Gregory Lowry of Lumberton, NC; her daughters: Sandrah Lowry of Jacksonville, NC, Cynthia Lowry Chavis (Mark) of Lumberton, NC, and Angela Flores (Hector) of Rocky Mount, NC; brothers: Hudell Chavis (Jean) and Michael Chavis of Pembroke, NC; sisters: Melba Harris and Patricia “Tish” Chavis of Maxton, NC, Barbara “Bob” Strickland (WJ) of  VA, and Judy Gorman (Ed) of NJ; eighteen grandchildren: Angelo, Tonya, Asa, Deaton “Tate”, Carlos, James “Elliott”, Charly, Veronica, Daniel, Toni, Matthew, Carla, Kyal, Sherry, Krisanthony, Nikolas, DeAngelo, Zackary; twenty-six great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Verona was a wonderful mother who was always there when her family needed her the most, offering support and wisdom in love and abundance. A friend to many, she was a lifetime member of Bethel Hill Baptist Church and the Union Chapel Community. She will truly be remembered as the feisty little lady who had the willpower and boldness to always let the truth be known. 

Funeral arrangements will be held at Bethel Hill Baptist Church located at 2660 Shannon Road, Lumberton NC beginning with visitation at 1:00pm and services starting at 2:00pm on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Rev. Jimmy Hammonds and Jackie Jones will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oxendine Cemetery, Oakgrove Church Road, Lumberton, NC.
