Vardell Hunt, 74, of Pates, NC was born on May 7th, 1951, and departed this life on September 24, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Vardell is preceded in death by his son Deven Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sheila Hunt, five sons Rodney Hunt, Travis Hunt, Brandon “BJ” Hunt, Daniel Hunt, and Jacob Hunt (Shiann); five daughters Keysha Locklear (Stoney), Terri Dale Hunt, Melissa Wallace, Joelle Locklear (Josh), and Charly Hunt; a sister, Versie Jones; two brothers, Tracy Hunt and Carl “Brent” Locklear; a special cousin Jeannette Locklear.

Vardell loved to entertain in the famous Lonesome Dove where countless memories have been made. If you had the privilege to enter “The Dove” you were sure to share a meal, song, or even a dance. He maybe would share a story or two about his life experiences, always sure to add “I’ve had a great time”. These stories will continue to be retold for years to come. His absence will leave an emptiness in our hearts, and the Lonesome Dove will indeed feel lonesome. We can never hear another song by the Allman Brothers or the distinct aroma of a Trader Jacks cigar without thinking of him. We take comfort in knowing that the family circle will not be unbroken and we will meet again.
