Mr. Stanford Lowry was born on February 17, 1935 to Mr. James Lee and Etta Lowry and departed this life on April 20, 2026 surrounded by his family and closest loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his son Jonathan Keith Lowry, daughter Lisa Michell Lowry; his father James Lee Lowry, mother Etta Mae Lowry, brother William Brant Lowry and his wife Joan.

Mr. Lowry graduated from Pembroke High School before moving on to earn a degree in History at Pembroke State College. Shortly after in 1954, he joined the United States Air Force where he served until 1958. When he returned, he became a teacher with the Public Schools of Robeson County and eventually a counselor at Pembroke State University. Mr. Lowry’s diverse career was a testament to his character and work ethic. However, his attributes and skills went well beyond those he demonstrated in a classroom. Outside of his house, the result of his green thumb was on full display as his home was decorated by greenery and flowers that he dedicated himself to maintaining. He also was a master carpenter and lent his abilities to cabinetry for the local Dialysis Centers. These are just a few of Mr. Lowry’s traits. A dedicated member of Berea Baptist Church, Stanford served the church and his faith with reverence. He had many hidden talents which he did not boast about and often dismissed them as just “small things,” that he loved to do. Yet, those who knew him, know that he truly was a humble man and took pride in helping others.

Though Mr. Stanford was not a man of many words, he was one of immeasurable and vast knowledge. His space in the lives of those he touched cannot be filled, but the memories that he left behind will be cherished by all those whom knew him. Mr. Stanford will be truly missed.

Stanford is survived by his loving wife Maria Locklear Lowry of 71 years; one brother James Garnie Lowry and his wife Annie Pearl; several nieces and nephews along with a host of relatives and friends.
