Sherry Locklear Obituary

Mrs. Sherry Renee Locklear, 41, of the Union Chapel Community in Pembroke, went to her heavenly home on Friday, October 6, 2018.

Sherry “Renee” Locklear was preceded in death by her maternal Grandfather, Herman Maynor; paternal grandparents Harvey and Ethel Blue. She is survived by her husband, Chris Locklear of 20 years; two daughters, Christen (Austin) Hunt and Hannah Locklear of the home, and a step daughter Alexandria (J.W.) Roberts of Maxton; her parents, Redell and Cherry Blue of Pembroke; a sister Tracy (Timmy) Locklear of Maxton; three brothers, Joshua (Selena) Blue of Pembroke, Mickey (Kimberly) Jacobs of Pembroke, Marcus Oxendine of St. Pauls; grandmother, Rosie Lee Maynor; her in-laws, Mary E. and Lannie Lowery of Lumberton and Ernie and Carla Maynor of Maxton; several nieces and nephews and host of relatives and friends.

Renee was a graduate of University of North Carolina at Pembroke earning a degree in Elementary Education in 1999.  She also obtained a Master Degree from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in Education in 2008 and East Carolina University in Library Science in 2016.  Renee was a faithful employee of the Public Schools of Robeson County for 19 years. She taught various grades throughout her time with the school system and was currently the Media Coordinator at St. Pauls Middle School. Renee inspired her students by motivating and encouraging them to do their best.

As a faithful member of Union Chapel Holiness Methodist Church, she served as a Sunday School Teacher in the Nursery Class for many years.  She loved her “babies.”  She took pride in the nursery and made sure it was extra clean. She was always excited to work with fundraisers for the youth, Christmas caroling, Relay For Life, Vacation Bible School, and helping with street ministries with 11thHour Ministries.  She chaperoned the Youth For Christ on mission trips to Oklahoma, Virginia, and Georgia.  She helped establish a food bank and helped repair a church in Oklahoma.  During her mission trips to Virginia and South Carolina, she volunteered with the World Changers Organization where she was an Encourager for the Youth while she worked alongside them with home rehabilitation. She was a devoted Christian with a servant’s heart.  She will be truly missed at her church.

One of the most important things in Renee’s life was her family. She was a supportive and nurturing wife to her husband, Chris. She was a loving and caring mama to her girls.  She was their biggest and most dedicated fan. She was a faithful caregiver of her mother and father and she will always be their “baby.” As a sister her siblings counted on by her and they could always rely on her to always be there.  She put everyone’s needs before her own.  Renee was a smart, strong, courageous, and beautiful woman and was a role model for her children.  She was truly inspiring.  Her unconditional love and support will never be forgotten.
