Savannah Dial Locklear, affectionately known to many as “Ms. Lit,” passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on10/21/2025, following a brief illness. Up until her final days, she remained a kind, grace, and compassion—true to the feisty, independent that defined her.

 She was the daughter of George and Lucy Mandy Dial she was the second oldest daughter, Preceded in death her siblings Tucker, Georgianna, (Tidy)Thomas, Helen. She is preceded in death by her daughters Sandra Faye Jackson and Diane Locklear, Grandchildren Savannah McMillian and Harvey Jr Jackson.

She leaves behind son Erbert Locklear and (Little) Charles Wilkes(Dinita). Three Grandchildren that she raised as her own Jacqueline Tonya Locklear, Samantha Strickland and Cessandra Oxendine. Other Grandchildren Joseph Locklear, Sean McMillian, Jessica Locklear. Jennifer Jacobs, Amber Kline, Chelsey Wilkes and Marijo Wilkes-Locklear (Trevan), Charles Wilkes ll, 13 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great great grandchildren. A special niece Gladys Mcgirt-Eason that she helped raised and consider her a daughter. As well as friends and extended family members who will miss her dearly

Ms. Lit life can best be said she was the rock that held the whole family together. For those that was privileged to have known her knew we were in the presence of someone extraordinary—a woman shaped by a different world, yet always ahead of her time. In her 91 years, she witnessed profound change, yet never let it dim her spirit. She embraced life’s modern quirks with humor and ease, mastering the TV remote better than any of us and answering her flip phone on the first ring, as if to say, “I’m still here, and I’m still sharp.”

Her legacy is not only in the years she lived, but in the way she lived them—with compassion, independence, and a spark that never faded.

In her 91 years here with us she was always the one everyone would come to her house if you needed a place to stay, or you needed a good meal. As well as some chow chow and who could ever forget her Chocolate cakes and sweet potatoes bread. If you traveled down Tucker road you would find her in the yard working her rose bushes, she always was fond of Christmas Eve at her house with all the family.

 Never the less her favorite past time shopping for clothes for not only herself but all the family. and loved going to yard sales with her daughters and Glady’s. She will be remembering for her generosity, advice and giving money to others. She was so many things to so many people and always looking out for others. 

She was known for her fondness for Pepsi, cigarettes, and Double mint gum—a trio of comforts enjoyed while sitting on the front porch rocking gently, soaking in the sun and rhythm of the day especially during the humming birds season.

 The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to Nancy Lowe her caregiver for the extraordinary love and devotion she showed in caring for her throughout her final years. Also Destiney her Hospice Nurse and Tanner Mcgirt that she considers a grandson.
