Mr. Rudy Dean Paul, 73, of Pembroke, North Carolina, passed peacefully to his heavenly home on March 8, 2026. Born August 26, 1952, he was a lifelong resident of Robeson County whose life was deeply rooted in his community, culture, and the people he loved.

He was the son of the late Hester Quinton Paul and Marthelma Lyne Paul. Raised in Pembroke, Rudy graduated from Pembroke High School in 1970 and later earned his degree from Pembroke State University in 1989. A proud member of the Lumbee Tribe and faithful member of Burnt Swamp Baptist Church, he carried a deep love for his heritage and lived a life guided by faith and service.

Rudy dedicated forty years to Robeson County Parks and Recreation Department, where he mentored and encouraged generations of youth across the county. His service to the community extended beyond his career, volunteering more than fifty years with the Pembroke Rural Fire Department, Station 21. Rudy was also involved with the Robeson County Regional Agricultural Fair for over fifty years and was a founding member of the outdoor drama Strike at the Wind!

Rudy loved people and never met a stranger. Known for his stories, humor, and warm spirit, he often brought others together around the grill, good food, and fellowship. He enjoyed many simple joys in life. He loved fishing, traveling, NASCAR, golf, and the outdoors, and was active with Ducks Unlimited.

While Rudy gave much of his life to serving his community, his greatest love was always his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored.

Rudy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Lane Paul.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Emily Jo Oxendine (Branlon); his sister, Carol Paul; and his three beloved grandchildren, Dean Carson Oxendine, Leo Carlyle Oxendine, and Eden Carolyne Oxendine.

Rudy Paul will be remembered as a man who spent his life serving others – a mentor, firefighter, community leader, storyteller, and proud Lumbee man whose legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
