Mr. RJ “Jaybird” Oxendine, 88, of Fairmont, NC departed this life Friday, February 28, 2025, at his residence. He was born February 21, 1937, in Robeson County, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arber and Pearlie Oxendine, eight brothers Cullen Oxendine, Vardell Oxendine, Ardell Oxendine, Varcie Oxendine, James Wibert Oxendine, Charlie Ray Oxendine, Arber “Zonnie” Oxendine Jr, John Wesley Oxendine, four sisters, Allie Ruth Oxendine, Eula Oxendine, Thelma Oxendine Citron, Velma Oxendine Robergh, three sons, Roy Chavis, Graylen Chavis, and Richard Chavis, and one daughter, Pearline Oxendine.
He is survived by his wife Lay Ruth Oxendine of the home; a son RJ Oxendine, Jr (Deborah), three daughters, Cynthia Nealand (Raymond), Sue Jones, Melissa Branch (Danny), thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
