Mrs. Peggy Sue Sweat, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at Morrison Manor surrounded by family members on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the age of 67. She was born on May 15, 1958, in Laurinburg, NC to Praford and Lendora Lowery.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Praford and Lendora Lowery. She leaves to cherish her memories: husband James Michael Sweat of Wilmington, NC and son Harrison Sweat (Salena) of Rowland, NC and sister Sybil Collins (Jeff) of Pembroke, NC and brother Ronnie Lowery (Endoria) of Maxton, NC and two grandchildren, Micah Cummings and Carly Sweat and a host of loving friends and family.

A devoted educator, Peggy spent 31 years teaching middle school math and science — a true passion of hers. For 23 of those years, she made a daily 100-mile round trip commute from her home in New Hanover County to Brunswick County, NC, exemplifying her commitment to her students and her calling.

Peggy’s joy for life was evident in everything she did, flowing directly from her deep and unwavering Christian faith. Her relationship with Jesus Christ was the foundation of who she was — guiding her words, her actions, and the way she loved others. A devoted member of her church, Peggy didn’t just attend services faithfully; she lived out her faith daily through service, kindness, and compassion. She especially found joy in visiting with the elderly, offering them encouragement and the love of Christ through her presence. She loved to travel, and her heart was always drawn to the beach in Wilmington, NC — a place where she found peace, reflection, and closeness to God. Peggy never met a stranger; her warm, welcoming spirit touched countless lives and bore witness to the love of Christ in all she did.
