Mrs. Opal Locklear Oxendine, 82, of 2165 Whistling Rufus Rd., Pembroke, was born on August 13, 1942 and passed peacefully on November 25th after a gradual decline in health.  She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and friends at her home as she peacefully transitioned from this life to her eternal home.

Opal L. Oxendine was a dedicated member of Green Pine Freewill Baptist Church where she was on the Refreshment Committee and her Sunday School class treasurer for many years.  Opal found great joy also attending Burnt Swamp Baptist Church with her granddaughter.  Opal was a proud and dedicated homesteader and military wife.  She was a graceful, beautiful lady of many talents including gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, decorating, and tablescapes.  She found the greatest pleasure using these talents to serve others. She was known for being an incredible hostess and entertainer.  Opal made her house a home for all of those around her.  She was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 wife and was the matriarch of her family.  She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, wisdom, strength, and stability.

 She was the daughter of the late Rev. Barto and Cletus Locklear.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years Eugene Ramsey Oxendine, her precious daughter Lisa Marie O. Cummings; and brothers Buddy Locklear, Robert Locklear, and Jimmy Locklear.

Mrs. Oxendine leaves to cherish her memories a daughter Teresa Ann (Melvin) Locklear and one son Eugene Wylie (Debbie) Oxendine both of Pembroke, NC.  Four grandchildren Brandon M. Locklear, Brandy N (Justin) Long, Melissa A. Locklear (the Best Caregiver) all of Pembroke, NC and Wylie Cole Oxendine of Lumberton, NC. Four great grandchildren Takorah G. Long, Tericah N. Long, Collette Oxendine and Colina Oxendine.  Two brothers Roy Locklear of Jacksonville, FL and Danny (Libby) Locklear of Pembroke, NC. Lastly, special loved ones Justin Johnson and Ila Mae Oxendine.  Opal was blessed to have a multitude of compassionate caregivers including Mrs. Betty Locklear, Mrs. Dottie Woods, and Ms. Katrina Jones (Angels of Mercy Home Care).  She also leaves a host of relatives and friends that will carry her in their hearts forever.
