Nellie O’Neal Sampson Canady, age 98, was born in Robeson County, NC on October 12, 1927, to the late Elmore Sampson and Annie Burns Sampson. She was the oldest child of eleven siblings with only one surviving brother today. Nellie was a devout Catholic of St. Frances de Sales Catholic Church and a member of the Golden Flock. She was a devoted fan of Elvis Presley and The Grand Ole Opry. She enjoyed traveling the USA and beyond with her husband, attending events at the Givens Performing Arts Center on the UNC-Pembroke Campus and Oak Island Beach, NC. Nellie was a gentle, loving, kind, and beautiful person. She will be admired and appreciated for her strong belief in God the Father, her commitment to family, her will, compassion and strength.
Nellie is survived by her husband Howard Oliver Canady of 71 years; daughter Sabrina and husband Michael Kim Burroughs of Greensboro, NC; two sons, Howard Rex Canady of Pembroke, NC and Chuck Canady and Becky Hales of Greenville, NC; a brother Earl Sampson and Florence Robinson of Baltimore, MD; three granddaughters Cierra Canady Maynor and husband Nick Maynor of Pembroke, NC; Caitlin Burroughs King of Greensboro, NC and Cassidy Burroughs of Los Angeles, CA; three great grandchildren Elena King, Christian Thomas King and Ellie Grace Maynor.
