Mary Helen Hunt

Ms. Mary Hunt, age 83, of Lumberton passed away peacefully at home Tuesday July 27, 2021. Ms. Hunt was born to Lillie Strong and Glover Hunt on June 17, 1938 in Rowland, NC.  She loved her church, New Point Baptist Church, especially performing with the Senior Drama Team. She loved working in her yard and tending to her flowers. She will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, and friend to all that knew her.

    Ms. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie Campbell of Lumberton and Grover Hunt of Rowland; a son, Danny Hunt of Lumberton; a granddaughter, Tiffany Hunt; one great-grandson, Brayden Hunt both of Prospect; a sister Patsy Hammonds of Lumberton; and a brother, Steven Griffin of Fairmont.

    She leaves behind to cherish her memory a son, Mickey Locklear(Jacqueline) of Lumberton; four brothers, Wilbert Strong (Lib) and Billy Hammonds (Jalynn) of Lumberton, Charlie Hammonds and Jimmy Hammond (Dottie) of Greensboro; two sisters, Fay Caballero of Lumberton and Kathy Locklear of Pembroke; three grandchildren, Keesha Hunt, Nikki Locklear and Nicholas Locklear of Pembroke; three step granchildren, Sydney Emanuel, Shawn Emanuel and Santana Emanuel of Lumberton; 9 great-granchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

     The family would like to recognize special friends Barbara Stewart, Eunice Locklear and Farella Oxendine, they stayed true to her until the end. A special thank you to her caregivers, Melissa Oxendine and Darlene Locklear, who gave their time to ensure she was provided for and comfortable. Last but not least, we thank Community Hospice for their outstanding dedication and commitment to Ms. Mary.
