Mr. Martin “Vi” L. Dial, 81 of Pembroke, NC. departed this life on October 15, 2023, at UNC Health Southeastern. Mr. Martin was born in Robeson County on January 6, 1942.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Madie J. Dial; his son, Martin L. Dial Jr.; his brothers, Rev. Ertle Dial, Rudolph Dial, Coleman Dial, Grover Dial and Huglin Dial; and two sisters, Ollie Brewington and Glenda Chavis.
Mr. Martin leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Mrs. Shirley L. Dial; two daughters, Danette D. Scott (Carnell) of Pembroke, NC and Kim Gomez (Chris) of Columbus County; two sons, Rudy Dial (Rhonda) of Pembroke, NC and Antonio Dial (Ashley) of North Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Greg Jacobs Jr., Lil’ Rudy Dial (Daniela), Marcus L. Dial (Holie), and Victor A. Dial (Alexis); nine great grandchildren; Taylor Jacobs, John Anthony Dial, Elizabeth M. Dial, Talon Mark Dial, James Cole Dial, Maverick L. Dial, Anderson R. Dial, Masyn L. Dial and Victoria A. Dial; one sister, Dorothy Sampson of Wilmington, NC; a brother, Horace Dial of Hamstead, NC; and a host of family and friends.
Mr. Martin and Mrs. Shirley were united in marriage in 1964 and together they had a happy life in Robeson County. Together they weathered the storms of life and celebrated all the blessings God gave them. Mr. Martin was a faithful member of Thompson Community Baptist Church for 65 years. God gave Mr. Martin a special gift to sing and pray.
Mr. Martin had a great love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He provided them with love, laughter, guidance, and support. They were the joy of his life. His legacy will live through them as they carry forward his teachings and continue to make him proud. Mr. Martin had a special place in his heart for his animals. His horse Scout was his favorite. He enjoyed feeding his dogs, chickens, goats, fish, and a variety of other animals through the years.
While we mourn our loss, we rejoice for Heaven’s gain. The bible teaches us that “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
