Mrs. Lisa Marie Oxendine Cummings, of Pembroke, was born November 3, 1962, to the late Mr. Eugene
Ramsey Oxendine and Mrs. Opal L. Oxendine. Lisa passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 17, 2023
with her loving and devoted husband Mr. Frank Cummings by her side.
Lisa was a wife, daughter, sister, aunt, a loyal friend to many, and above all else she was a Child of God.
She helped raise and guide a village of children especially her nieces and nephews with love and grace.
In 2018, Lisa was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (mostly known as ALS). Her strong faith in God
alongside the desire to live allowed her to persevere despite given a 6-month prognosis. Even in the
midst of an unrelenting illness she was humble, optimistic, and a solid rock of support for her family and
friends. She always offered a helping hand and when she was unable to, she continued to lend words of
encouragement, persistent advice (even when not asked at times), and a beaming beautiful smile that
continued to spread joy to those close to her.
She frequently asked “wonder what heaven is going to be like?” Her eyes would light up at the thought
of our Master and Savior Jesus Christ. Her greatest desire was to be greeted by her “Daddy” and a host
of others that have gone ahead of her to their Heavenly HOME. Lisa has now gained her wings and
joined them with a brand-new body.
Lisa leaves to cherish her memories: a caring husband of 31 years, Mr. Frank Cummings, Jr. of the home
who was her ultimate strength; her mother, Mrs. Opal L. Oxendine; her sister, Mrs. Teresa Locklear
(Melvin); her brother, Wylie Oxendine (Debbie) all of Pembroke. Lisa also leaves behind her cherished
eleven nieces, twelve nephews, three great nieces, and her best friend, Ms. Paula Sampson. Lisa was
blessed to have a multitude of compassionate caregivers and family including Mrs. Twyla Cummings,
Mrs. Betty Locklear, Ms. Shirley Chavis, Ms. Jennifer Lowry, Ms. Christina Jacobs and Mr. Nick Bethea.
She also leaves a host of relatives and friends that will carry her in their hearts forever.
