Lawrence "Doc" Hardin Obituary

Lawrence (Doc) Hardin passed away at home on June 16th, 2026. He was born in Robeson County on December 5th, 1929 to the late James and Carrie Hardin.

He will always be remembered as a Daddy who fought to keep his children together and was granted full custody during a time when it was unheard of in the 60's. He fulfilled the role of Mama and Daddy raising children that honored and respected him. He taught us to love each other deeply and to always treat others with kindness. He never met a stranger and never turned his eyes or heart from others in need. He was lovingly known by his nieces and nephews as Uncle Doc. He worked in the construction industry as a motor grader operator, who helped to build a large portion of 1-95 in both NC and SC.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Minor and Lance Harding, sisters, Lena Locklear, Lorraine Locklear, Ella Ree Evans, Beatrice Glenn, Gladys Fagan and Annie Neal Hammonds, a son, Ricky Holmes Hardin, and two grandsons, Ashton & Christopher Simmons.

Those left to treasure his memories are his sister, Earline Bell, his children, Wade Hardin (Sandra), Myrtle Marlow (Sonny), Wendell Holmes (Michelle), Loria Simmons (Mark), Donna ‘Karen' Nelson (Scott). Kathy Sweat (Joe), Theresa Hardin, Jim Doby Whitaker (Miranda), Tanisha Oxendine (Daniel), Kathy Marie Sanders (Matt), James Hardin and his Mother Rita Oxendine, who our Daddy Loved. He was blessed with 19 Grandchildren, one of which he raised as his daughter, Crystal Hardin, 40 Great-Grandchildren and a Great-Great Grand on the way.

A special nurse Shana, that took care of him for the last 6 years that he called "That Girl" and a host of nieces and nephews.
