Bro. Larry Neal Spears, son of the late Torrence and Rosie Spears, was born in Robeson County on December 3rd, 1952. God called him home August 6th, 2022.
Bro. Larry attended Saint Pauls High School and then later joined the Marines as a Rifleman where he proudly served until 1974. While serving, he received the National Defense Service Medal. In 1975, he met and married Peggy Mciver.
Bro. Larry dedicated his life to God at an early age and served as a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Saint Pauls, NC. He later joined Pleasant Meadow Missionary Baptist Church in Lumberton, NC.
Bro. Larry was a member of the Phoenix Masonic Lodge #77. He dedicated over ten years of employment at Burlington Mills and Conway Freight. Bro. Larry was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, and watching football. He especially loved to eat his wife’s sweet potato pie. His love, kindness, and infectious smile will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Torrence and Rosie Spears, six brothers: James, Torrence Jr. Sherman, Roy Lee, Timothy and Grady Spears.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving and devoted wife of 47 years Peggy Spears of the home; two sons: Tony Mciver (Matasha) of Lumberton, NC, Corey Spears of Augusta, GA; one daughter: Natasha Colson (Jeremy) of Lumberton, NC; one brother: Fred Spears (Gwendolyn) of Paterson, NJ; one sister: Edith Jones (Troy) of Fairburn, GA; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
