Mr. Laney Locklear, Sr., 87, of the Union Chapel Community, Pembroke NC, was born November 27, 1938, and peacefully departed this life at his home on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ashby and Pearlie Locklear; his beloved wife of 52 years, Bernetha Locklear, his two sons, Christopher Locklear and Daniel Locklear, daughter-in-law, Karen “Boss” Locklear, his siblings, Lendora Lowery, Cynthia Ballard, Laura Authurs, Lacy Locklear, and Derrick Locklear.
He is survived by his two sons, Laney “Duke” Locklear Jr. (Tina), Shon Locklear, two daughters, Alison Oxendine (James Darrin) and LaCinda Oxendine (Peter Duel) all from the Union Chapel Community. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He leaves behind 5 surviving siblings, Genese Paul, Gearlene Oxendine, Mack Locklear, Angela “Gena” Fields, and Doris Locklear.
He proudly served in the United States Army, while he was stationed in Korea. He faithfully served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Union Chapel Community Baptist Church for many years. After 36 years of dedicated service, he retired from the Senior Quality Assurance Department at Johns Manville/Railroad Friction Products Corporation in Maxton, North Carolina. Laney will be remembered for his unwavering faith, strong work ethic, kindness, and deep love for his family. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. He will be greatly missed by his family, church family, and all who knew and loved him.
