Kalvin Begay Obituary

Kalvin Begay was born on July 15, 1988 in Los Gatos, California entering this world with a warrior’s spirit, a servant’s heart and sense of humor that could turn even the worst days into something worth smiling about. On March 5, 2025, Kalvin departed this world at 36 years old. He left too soon, but not without making sure we all had stories to tell, wisdom to carry, and plenty of reminders that he was usually right (even if he wasn’t).  He was a man of faith, but not the kind that only sat in a church pew on Sundays- his faith was lived out in his actions, in the way he protected and provided for those he loved, and in the way he never met a stranger. Kalvin had a way of making faith feel real-living it, breathing it, and sharing it, not just through words but through his kindness, laughter and the occasional debate. He could turn life’s hardest moments into something worth enduring. He believed in prayer, hard work, and lending a helping hand. Kalvin’s greatest treasure was his family. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Harry Tsosie Begay (Dallas, Tx), his maternal grandparents John and Maitland Cummings (Pembroke, NC), and three special aunts Iris C. Locklear(husband Ricky Locklear of Fairmont, NC) , Jodie Begay (Dallas, Tx) and Gail Begay (Dallas, Tx).  Kalvin leaves behind his beloved fiancée, Evi Rena’ Locklear, and their soon to be born son, John Truss Begay. His dear parents, Darryl and Enid Begay, his sweet sister Kyle Begay, grandmother Jeannette Begay, his most cherished Uncle John Cummings (Carol, Caroline and Camree) and a host of treasured family and friends.

To know Kalvin was to know enduring love and unbounding loyalty. His presence was steady, his love was deep, and his impact will be felt for generations. Kalvin may have left this world, but his big smile and even bigger heart remain with us forever more. Though we may weep, our spirits can rejoice in knowing he is with his Father, and suffering no more. His stories, his lessons and laughter will live on bring light to our dark days. As we honor Kalvin and his life’s journey, do something kind today: help a neighbor, say a prayer, or give to someone in need. And if you’re going to argue about something, at least make sure you know what you’re talking about. Kalvin certainly always thought he did. Rest easy, Kalvin, your work here is done, but your love remains.
