James Harry Sheffield was born December 8, 1942 to the late Harry and Irene Sheffield. He was the only boy of 5 children. Shortly after his birth, they moved to Palatka, FL.
Upon finishing high school James moved back to Georgia to attend Brewton Bible College where he met Pastor Lawrence and Alice Hardy. When Preacher Hardy was called to preach at Berea Baptist Church, James helped the couple move to Pembroke, NC. James was very active in the church, which is how he met his wife of 53 years, Janice.
James was a faithful husband, a devoted father, and a loyal friend. He was a true family man, willing to do anything it took to support his family, from selling hog feed, insurance, fire alarms, ice cream, giving haircuts, to finally settling on seafood. He was the owner and operator of Sheff’s Seafood (and maker of the best hush puppies on earth) for over 30 years.
After retirement James lived a simple life at home with his family, enjoying time with his great grandchildren and watching nostalgic tv shows. He is preceded in death by his sister Barbara Bisbee. Surviving are his wife, Janice, two children, Kelli and Mark, three grandchildren, Casey, Katie, and J.R. (Dakota), and three great grandchildren, Cali, Nox, and Emersyn. Three sisters, Louise Thomas, Annell Gillow, and Gale Dunn, all of Florida. James leaves a great host of friends and family to celebrate his life.
