J. D. Revels, Jr. (Pa JD) was born on July 26, 1947, to Jessie David and Maudie Lee Revels. J.D. journeyed home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. He is preceded in death by his father Jessie David Revels, his mother Maudie Lee Revels, his sister Brenda and his brother Reggie.

J.D. cherished his wife, Deena, his partner and best friend of 55 years. Together, they built a life rooted in love and tradition. Deena stood by his side through every chapter, especially in recent years as his devoted caregiver. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and commitment. J. D. gave his life to Christ in 2019 and believed in the mission of the church and the power of service.

J. D. grew up in the St. Pauls Community with his 14 siblings: Genett, Genell, Blonkita, Linda, Brenda, Reggie, Horace, Carlton, Connie, Donald, Garner, Linwood, Annette, and Tony. A proud Army Veteran, he served his country in Vietnam, where he was wounded in the line of duty. His courage and resilience were hallmarks of his character, shaping the way he approached life—with strength, humility, and purpose.

J.D. was a gifted athlete, revered in his community as one of the finest golfers in the county. He won countless tournaments and trophies and saw golf as a metaphor for life—full of challenges, lessons, and quiet victories. He was equally skilled on the tennis court and never missed a chance to cheer on Carolina basketball.

By trade, J.D. was an electrician and spent nearly 30 years as an electrical instructor at RCC. He was a mentor to many, and his students often credited their success to his guidance. He found joy in the outdoors—hunting, fishing, building, and tending to the home he built with his own hands. He was a tireless worker, often up before the sun and still going long after it set. One of his favorite sayings was, “I’ve been living a long time; I know some things,” and he did.

J.D. was known for his infectious laughter, quick wit, straightforward nature, and love for a good joke. He was immensely proud of his family, especially his twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He loved each of them deeply and took great joy in watching them grow, and he made sure they knew how much they were loved. His legacy lives on in their laughter and the values he passed down.

J.D. is survived by his wife; Deena Revels, a son, J. David Revels (Tiffany), daughter, Janera Revels, daughter, Rebekah Revels Lowry; his grandchildren—Dontai, Summer, CJ, Eagle, River, Sparrow, Raven, Jerrica, Ashlyn, Stephen, Oakley, and Olivia; his great grandchildren—Megan, Najavie, Nymere, and Narley.
