Helen Locklear Obituary

Helen was born February 6, 1939, the first of seven children, to John D. and Inez Deese during the final three years of the Great Depression. Being the only girl at the age of six she took on the responsibility of helping her mother raise her siblings.

In September of 1972, she married Lee Edward Locklear, renewing their vows in August of 2008. They lived happily together for thirty-seven years, until he passed from this life in April 2009, she called  him “pumpkin”. Together they raised ten children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and any child that was in need of a hot meal or just a place to lay their head. They were the founders of House of Prayer Church.

She worked most of her life at the Inghan Watch Company, and in 1970 she started work at Eaton Corporation (Golf Pride) and retired at the age of fifty-six. After her long hot days at Eaton, she would come home and work the fields with her hands to provide for her children, until the late-night hours. She enjoyed pottery classes, and beach trips with her family and friends.

Helen had a prosperous life full of love but her life also involved loss. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Edward Locklear Sr.; three sons, Dr. Rev. Gary Revels (Angie), Lee Edward Locklear Jr, and Terry “Tad” Moore.; her father John D. Deese; her mother, Inez Deese; and six brothers, John D. Deese, Thomas Deese, Joe Deese, Jerry Ray Deese, Roy Lee Deese and Lawrance Deese.

She succeeds this world leaving five generations, five daughters, Sharon “Kay” Jones, Joy Revels, Joan D. Revels and Mary Moore all of Maxton NC., and Sacheen Locklear-Moore(Chris) of Wagram NC; three sons, Terry Michael Revels(Ruth), Amos Chavis, Brad Revels(Theresa) all of Maxton N.C; one brother, Rodney Deese of Maxton NC; Twenty-one (21) Grandchildren, Twenty-six (26) Great Grandchildren and Six (6) Great-Great Grandchildren.

She will be cherished, missed and loved by many.
