Mrs. Gwendolyn Locklear Cromartie, age 54, of 3800 Martin Luther King Dr. Lumberton entered into eternal rest on August 2, 2020.
Gwen was born July 6, 1966. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Lula Mae Locklear; her grandmother-in-law, Beulah McMillian; and her Godmother, Ma Copp.
Gwen always had an inexhaustible capacity to love, she was stoic to a fault; she would smile and say “God’s got it, he’s working”. Gwen was a loving and wonderful daughter, mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She has and will continue to impact forever all that were fortunate enough to have known her. Gwen was idealistic, reliant and truly ambitious. She was the founder & CEO of Better Days Foundation Inc. A nonprofit organization designed to help at risk families fighting addiction & separation to stay together. This was dear to Gwen however, Gwen’s true passion was her family and friends. Her goal was to always bring her family together. Gwen longed to see her two unborn grandbabies her ten grandchildren were a huge part of her life. Gwen was not called grandma she was called Gam-Ma!
Gwen leaves to cherish her memories as treasures her husband and love of 33 years, Gary Cromartie they were together thirteen years & married twenty; mother in law, Joan McMillian (Jimmy); three sons, Steven Locklear (K.T), Ernest Mallory (Geneva), Ethan Crawford; three daughters, Jareka Locklear of Greensboro, Mamie Mallory Waller (Omar) of Fayetteville, Lareka Casey (Shawn) of Greensboro; ten grandchildren, Sincere, Cheyenne, Diamond, Elisha, Natahila, Nykas, Lornelius, Brilynn, Khilah, Brivanna; one honorary brother, J.W Locklear; very special stepson, Shawn Gilchrist; stepdaughter, Shavonah Gilchrist (M.J. K.K. Trey); two nieces, Shakeia Singletary and Serenity Dial; a very special friend, Aretha McDougald lifelong friend & sister (B.J) Betty Dial.
