Gregory Strickland Obituary

Mr. Gregory “Greg” Strickland, 66, of Lumberton, North Carolina, went to be with his Heavenly Father on May 8, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Robeson County on November 22, 1958, to the late Claude “Huddy” Strickland and Betty Locklear Strickland.

Greg was a hardworking man who spent many years as a truck driver, always doing his best to take care of his family. He loved sports. Whether he was watching, participating or on the field umpiring. His love for the games carried over to his children and grandchildren. One of his favorite pastimes was vacationing in the mountains with family and friends, where he enjoyed the peace, laughter, and time together. In his later months, Greg made the important decision to give his life to Christ. Becoming a Christian brought him peace and a new outlook on life. He was proud of his faith and everyone could see the difference it made in his heart and home.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sherri Strickland, and his brother, Dwayne “Wayne” Prentice Strickland.

He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Betty Oxendine Strickland, of the home; one son, Aubrey Oxendine and his wife Brandi; two daughters, Danielle Strickland Hall and her husband Jeremy, and Dana Strickland McCarter and her husband David. He is also survived by one sister, Shelly Locklear and her husband Michael; seven grandchildren: Kristen, Joah, Calob, Aleah, Elijah, Alexia, and Amelia; and one great-grandchild, Ehlani. He also leaves behind a host of nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends whom he held dearly in his heart, and a special recognition to Daddy, Rev. Horace Oxendine, Gregory's father-in-law.
