Gilbert Hunt Obituary

Gilbert Hunt (Sunday, December 24, 1939-Sunday, August 29, 2021).

Psalm 49:15 “But God will redeem my life from the grave; He will surely take me to Himself.”

Gilbert Hunt, 81 of 1290 S. Robeson Road, Rowland, North Carolina, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a friend to all earned his angel’s wings and proceeded to glory on August 29, 2021, surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren.

He was born on December 24, 1939 in Rowland, North Carolina to the late John Will and Zelma Hunt and he was predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Melvin Hunt and his sister, Betty Carol Hunt.  He was the second oldest of eleven children. Gilbert was a quiet, caring soul from the very beginning of his life to the end. He dearly loved His Lord Jesus Christ, whom he met personally on Sunday, November 9, 1969 and he was a faithful servant to the end.

He married the love of his life, Sallie Jacobs Hunt on September 24, 1959 and the two of them with God’s help built a life reflected by their love of God, family and friends. Gilbert and Sallie were inseparable and celebrated 61+ years of marriage. Second to the Lord, his family was his greatest love and accomplishment.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sallie Hunt; his four children: Rose H. Stout (Malcolm) of Fuquay-Varina, NC;  Debbi H. Sebold (Kevin) of Fuquay-Varina, NC;  Craig Hunt of Rowland, NC; and Michelle H. Shepherd (Andrew) of Wilkesboro, NC;  eight grand children: Ryan Hunt (Megan) of Holly Ridge,  NC;  Tyler Sebold of Charlotte, NC; Jordan Hunt (Larra) of Lumberton, NC;  Jacob Sebold (Lauren) of Fuquay-Varina, NC;  Caitlin Shepherd of Charlotte, NC; Hannah Stout of Fuquay-Varina, NC; Emma Stout of St. Louis,  MO; and John Shepherd of Raleigh, NC; five great-grandchildren: Zayin Hunt, Micah Sebold, Ashton Sebold, Sophie Sebold and McKenzie Hunt. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: William Hunt of Cheraw, SC; Hannah Jacobs of Lumberton, NC; Alvin Hunt of Lumberton, NC; Wanda Hunt of Lumberton, NC; Janet Sealey of Rowland, NC; and Jeff Hunt (Anna) of Laurinburg, NC. He was also loved and survived by two special nephews: Dr. Kenneth Jacobs (Christy) of Germantown, Maryland  and Matthew Sealey of Wilmington, NC. He was also survived by a hosts of friends and other family members.

He was a man of few words, but the words he uttered and his actions reflected mightily of his character. He was kind, generous and a friend to the stranger and to the needy. He had a work ethic and character unparalleled to any and his happiest day included a ride on his FarmAll or Massey Ferguson Tractor plowing some piece of land. He has sowed many seeds and left many to plow. May we walk in his footsteps.

He was a faithful member of Pleasant View Baptist Church were he served as Assistant Superintendent at various seasons of his life.

A special thank you to the caretakers and staff at Fresenius Kidney Care, Pembroke, NC as well as the 4th Floor nursing staff at Southeastern General Hospital.
