Gala Ann Deese, the daughter of Mr. Auzout G. Lowry and Ethel E. Lowry was born on April 23, 1941 in Robeson County, North Carolina. 

She worked as an impactful educator for 30 years for Robeson County Public Schools.  By many, she was known for her dedication and drive for learning. In 1985, she was awarded “Teacher of the Year” by the Robeson County School System, and her impact continues to live on through her students, family, and community members.  

She was a devoted mother, grandmother (Nana), sister and aunt.  By all who came in contact, her character was known for centering joy, compassion, and love unconditionally.  She never met a stranger all the way up until her final days on this earth.  She was a true representation of Jesus’ love and grace for all those He came in contact with, and this reflection of love is something that she strongly instilled within her family.  

She also enjoyed photography, making videos, and capturing the beautiful moments of life that many often take for granted.  This, in tandem with her love, is only a small portion of the legacy that she leaves on this earth. 

Gala is survived by two daughters Karen Ann Bell and Carmen Eldora Deese; two grandchildren, Gary Deese and Gavin Bell; two sisters, Cencia Timmons and Carol Lowry; and a host of family, friends, and loved ones. 

The family will not receive visitors in the home but will do so following the memorial service on Monday, December 9th, at 2pm at Wesley Pines Retirement Community Fellowship Building. In lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions be made to Samaritan’s Purse in her memory.
