Freddie Lone Chavis, 94, of 175 WD Locklear Road, Lumberton, North Carolina, was born on March 22, 1932, and peacefully entered eternal rest at his home on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Freddie was the son of the late Ulysses Chavis and Lena Chavis. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Adrian Chavis, Earl B. Chavis, Gover Chavis, and Sylvester Chavis; and his sisters, Garnetta Chavis, Muriel Hunt, Marcelene Johnson, and Dr. Angela Chavis-Mickey.

Freddie proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Pandora, on May 29, 1956. Their marriage was a beautiful example of faith, devotion, and enduring love.

He began his career with Ford Motor Company in 1966, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 1992. After retiring, Freddie returned home to Robeson County to enjoy life surrounded by family and lifelong friends.

A devoted man of faith, Freddie was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he served for many years as Lead Deacon. His unwavering commitment to God, his church, and his community touched countless lives. He was also a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

Freddie found his greatest joy in spending time with his family. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to his life. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and took great pride in his treasured 1949 Mercury, a classic automobile that reflected his appreciation for timeless craftsmanship.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his children, Lionel Kirk Chavis (Jennifer) and Liana McNeill (Justin); his beloved grandchildren, Cheyenne Chavis and Alana Chavis; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Elianna McNeill, Jaydin McNeill, and Kaynin McNeill.

He is also survived by his brother, Rev. Lindbergh Chavis, and his sisters, Vilena Locklear, Dr. Earlena Lowry, and Dr. Jo Ann Lowery, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory. A big special thank you to his care takers: Connie Hammonds, Sylvia Sanderson, Caroline Chavis, Betty Brewington, Linda Oxendine and Jayla Hunt. 

Freddie Lone Chavis will be remembered for his steadfast faith, humble spirit, servant’s heart, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family. His legacy of kindness, integrity, and devotion will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know and love him.
