Edwin Langley Britt, Sr. passed peacefully in his sleep, into the arms of Jesus, on April 3, 2025. Born to H.C. and Helen Britt on February 25, 1944, he spent the majority of his life on
the family land in Britt’s Township in Robeson County. A graduate of Lumberton Senior High in 1962, he played football, basketball, and competed on the track team. Edwin went on to play football for Mars Hills College before marrying and having two children, Edwin Jr and Betsy, with his first wife, Judy, with whom he remained good friends for the remainder of his life. Edwin recently celebrated 48 years of marriage with his wife Theresa, who lovingly took great care of him right up to his last breath. Together, they had a daughter, Kareis. Edwin had a career in the sales business, starting at Hodges Piano and Organ Company, before moving on to the car business. His success in these areas was in large part due to his understanding that sales was more about relationship than product, and he knew how to take care of his customers. Two of his greatest joys were farming and fishing; both of which he did up until the last month of his life. He absolutely loved his time talking with his friends in the local community and often referred to them as “good people”. He was immensely proud of his three children, but they didn’t hold a candle to his eight grandchildren, whom he bragged about often. Edwin would tell you he was blessed, and had a life well lived.

He is survived by his loving wife Theresa, his son Edwin Britt Jr. and wife Renee; his daughter Betsy B. Newman and husband Edwin; his daughter Kareis Britt; his eight grandchildren Thomas, Savannah, Zion, Keeley, Bennett, Claire-Emma, Mikey, and Shelby; as well as his sister, Theresa Brazil, and husband Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude’s Hospital in Edwin’s honor. The family will hold a visitation on Thursday, April 10th from 6-8pm at Revels Funeral Home in Lumberton. 

At Edwin’s request, the family will have a private service led by his three children.
