Dorothy Dean Locklear, 79, of 485 Hayes Locklear Rd., Pembroke, entered her heavenly home on April 19, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 4, 1944, to Carlie Locklear Sr. and Lizzie Bell Locklear. She is preceded in death by her father, Carlie Locklear Sr., her mother, Lizzie Bell Locklear, her brother, Carlie Locklear Jr., and her sister, Martha Hundley.
Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memories: her husband of 62 years, Calvin Cooledge Locklear; one son, Calvin Cooledge Locklear Jr.; three daughters, Beverly L. Dixon (Michael), Penny Locklear (Gralin), Wanda K. Owens (Darrel); her grandchildren, Jessica Graham, Derrick Dixon, Daran Dixon, Tiffany Dixon, Micah Dixon, Carey Locklear, Madison Locklear, Cassidy Owens, Caden Owens, and Caylee Owens; and 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings, Patricia Sanderson of Rowland, Ruth Walker (Russel) of Martinsville, Indiana, Eddie A. Locklear of Pembroke, Barbara Carter of Pembroke, and Joseph Locklear (Paula) of Pembroke; and a host of relatives and friends.
Dorothy was an exemplary wife, mother, and human being. She embodied the best qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and unending generosity. Even at the end, she found a way to smile and laugh. Many times, she even found herself playing like a child again with her great-grandchild, Casalyn Kate. Dorothy will be remembered for her wild hair, her wild laugh, her braveness, and her strong love for her husband Cooledge. Her laughter will forever be in the wind of the earth. We love you, Mama. We love you, Granny.
