Doris Thompson Obituary

Our beloved Doris Branch Thompson answered the Lord’s call on August 11, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on December 27, 1944, in Lumberton, North Carolina, she was the cherished daughter of the late Ethel Mae Kee Branch and Milton Branch.

Doris was a faithful woman of God who devoted her life to service, family, and faith. She was a longtime and devoted member of Thompson Chapel Baptist Church, worshipping under the leadership of Reverend Burns, later Reverend White, and then Reverend Watson. During her time at Thompson Chapel, she served joyfully as a member of the Spiritual Choir and as a member of the Usher Board, always greeting others with warmth and grace.

In 2014, she began attending First New Testament Church in Lumberton, under the guidance of Bishop Calvin Baxter, where she continued to deepen her walk with Christ and form lasting friendships in fellowship.

Doris had a vibrant and loving spirit. She found joy in simple pleasures—canning vegetables, shelling peas, and making her regular Wednesday visits to Roses to take advantage of the   senior discount. She also enjoyed her outings to Bo’s Supermarket (IGA), where she often ran into familiar faces and shared stories with neighbors.

She was united in holy matrimony to her beloved husband, Lawrence J. Thompson ("Bo"), in 1968 in Dillon, South Carolina. Their love spanned decades and was rooted in mutual respect, laughter, and deep commitment.

Doris leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Lawrence J. Thompson, of the home; her children, Tyrone Thompson of Norfolk, VA, Dwight Thompson (Natashia) of Greensboro, NC, and Latonia Michelle Thompson of Lumberton, NC; five beloved grandchildren and one precious great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters, Bettie Wooten of Florida, Ada Pittman of Charlotte, NC,  Margaret Vick of Fayetteville, NC , Cathy Becote (Sylvester) of Lumberton, NC; her aunts, Marie Branch of Pembroke, NC and Annie Ruth Branch of Fayetteville, NC; and her sisters-in-law, Mary Fox of New York, NY,  Estella Thompson (John) of Pennsylvania, PA and Nell Hester (Billy) of Myrtle Beach, SC; one brother in law, Solomon Thompson (Charmaine) of New York.  Doris also leaves behind a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends, including Delores Jennings (Peanut) who were dear to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents; Milton and Ethel Branch, her brother, Bobby Graham; and her grandmother, Lula Branch, who played a special role in her life.

Doris's legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength will live on through those who knew and loved her. Her family finds comfort knowing that she is now resting peacefully in the arms of her Savior.
