Doris Jacobs Brooks, of 793 University Road, departed this earthly home to enter into her heavenly home on July 22, at the age of 86. Mrs. Brooks was born the eldest daughter of the late Johnson and Gaynell Jacobs on September 14, 1938 in Robeson County. She attended Pembroke State University and received a BS in Elementary Education in 1959. She also met and married Dr. Dalton P. Brooks Sr. on October 7, 1960. Later on the family moved to Miami, Florida and she received her Master’s in Elementary Education at the University of Miami in 1975. She was a teacher at Union Chapel Elementary for two years then during different intervals of motherhood and traveling with her husband to earn degrees, she returned to Pembroke Elementary School to continue her teaching career. She retired in 1996 with 31 years of service. While teaching, she also served as the pastor’s wife at Dundarrach Baptist Church in Hoke County for nearly 40 years. Sister Brooks was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, teacher, spiritual leader and a friend to all who knew her. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Johnson and Gaynell Jacobs; her loving husband, Dr. Dalton Peter Brooks Sr.; one sister, Jeanette Allen; and four brothers, Sterling, Samuel, Johnnie and Jerry Jacobs. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, a son, Dr. Dalton P. Brooks Jr. and wife Jean Brooks, of Lumberton; two daughters, Danielle B. Locklear and husband Charlie Locklear, and Dori B. West and husband Dr. Danny West, of Pembroke; nine grandchildren, Dominique Brooks, Dr. Dalton P. Brooks III and wife Nikki, Oscar Locklear Attorney at Law, Damilia B. Quintanilla and husband JJ, Olivia Locklear, Leah L. Shaw and husband Jeremy, Liam Locklear, Dannah W. Pittman and husband Logan, and Darrah West; six great-grandchildren, Carlos Brooks, Jay Quintanilla, Myla Brooks, Delilah Quintanilla, Dalton Brooks IV and soon to arrive Kyle Shaw; one brother, Roger Jacobs; six sisters, Sylvia Krajewski, Alice Scott, Gayle Brackett, Nancy Blue, Mary Lonie Locklear and Judy Jacobs Tuttle; and a host of other friends and loved ones. We would like to thank all who cared for her in her final years, your prayers and thoughts we have felt. To Olivia and Dori, who nursed her with grace and tender devotion.
