Mr. Donald Wilkins, age 73, of 2205 Oak Grove Church Road Lumberton, North Carolina was born on October 12, 1949 to the late Mr. Cary Lee and Mrs. Reedy May Wilkins. He departed this life Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at UNC Southeastern Health Center in Lumberton. He was preceded in death by his son, Donnie Wilkins; one sister, Rita Faye Wilkins; brothers, Samuel Wilkins and Ronald Wilkins; and one brother-in-law, Cardell Hunt.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a machine gunner achieving the rank of Private First Class with Company A, 2D Battalion (Mechanized), 2D Infantry. During his service, he earned the following awards: Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze service stars, Combat Infantryman Badge First Award, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Device (1960), Expert Badge with Machine Gun Bar, and Marksman Badge with Auto Rifle Bar.
He leaves to cherish in his memory, Linda Wilkins; two daughters, Stephaine N. Locklear (Aaron), and Sarah L. Wilkins of the home; four grandsons, Elijah L. Maynor, Seth C. Locklear, Avry C. Locklear, and Isaiah L. Locklear; one sister Joyce M. Hunt; his aunt Gertrude Oxendine and a host of relatives and friends.
