Dexter Evan Purdie III, 48, of Lumberton, NC passed away at Southeastern Medical Center June 14th, 2022, surrounded by family. Dexter was born in Robeson County on March 8th, 1974, to Dexter “Jim” Purdie and Alice Purdie Powers (Fred Powers) of Lumberton, NC.
Dexter graduated from Lumberton High School. He was employed by Graphic Packaging Inc. Dexter was known throughout the county for his participation in various basketball leagues, to include Industrial Leagues, Church Leagues, and Liniment Leagues. Dexter was best known for his distinct striking statue and outgoing personality. Dexter’s smile would brighten anyone’s day; he was the life of the party. The only thing he loved more than the game of basketball was God, his kids and family.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Barnes McRae.
Surviving to cherish his memories are his two sons, Kobe Devan Purdie, and Madden Purdie; one daughter, Destiney Purdie of Lumberton; one granddaughter, Alani Chavis-Pipkin of Lumberton; four sisters, Abby (Jeffery) Lewis, Paula Bordeaux, Ieshia Barnes of Lumberton, and Brittany (Saquan) Bethea of Fayetteville; three brothers, Anthony Purdie, Russell Barnes, Keith Bordeaux of Lumberton; one aunt, Mary Lois (James) Jones; seven uncles, Bill Purdie, David (Linda) Purdie, Arthur Howell of Lumberton, George Townsend of Fayetteville, Jerry and John Robinson, Dewayne Worley of Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews, Earl Sinclair III, Quinnshell Council, Tyra Purdie, Justin Currie Monte, Logan, Alicia, Adrianna, Maya, Gabriela Purdie of Lumberton.
