Mrs. Dessie C. Scott departed this life on July 12, 2018 at 2:00 A.M. at Southeastern Health – Woodhaven Nursing Home in Lumberton, NC.
Ms. Dessie was born on September 30, 1926 at home in Lumberton, NC to Eddie and Flora Cummings. She resided at 6188 North Chicken Road, Lumberton, NC.
Ms. Dessie was a Godly woman who was humble, funny, sweet, intelligent, very blunt, honest and very loving. She was a woman that was full of integrity who did not believe in foolishness. Ms. Dessie believed that any advice that she was to give you should be based on God’s word. So you could always depend on her to give you Godly advice. Ms. Dessie was a prayer warrior who believed in the power of prayer. Ms. Dessie’s prayer was, “I pray that not a single drop of my bloodline will not be saved when they pass away.” One of her favorite sayings was, “It won’t always be this way.” Ms. Dessie was someone that you wanted to be around because you were just drawn in by her personality.
Ms. Dessie was preceded in death by her parents: Eddie and Flora Cummings; her sons: Kenny and Earl Scott Jr.; her grandsons: Jerry Brewer and Jeremy Oxendine; her granddaughters: Chasity McGirt, Tina Scott, Angie Strickland and Theresa Scott; her great grandchildren: Isaac Strickland, Shania Brewer and La’Krison Locklear.
Ms. Dessie leaves behind to cherish her memory her son: Eugene “Buddy” Scott (Felicia); her daughters: Linda S. (James Bell), Brenda (Harold Dean) Brewer, June (Spencer) Oxendine, Helen (Anthony) Sampson, Kathy Scott Locklear, Nancy (Lawrence) McGirt and Sharon (Dwayne) Locklear, and a grandson that she helped raise Chris Locklear; Thirty-one grandchildren; sixty-eight great grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
