Deputy Welton Locklear Obituary

Deputy Welton Locklear of 1725 N. Chicken Road, Pembroke NC fulfilled his earthly journey on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Welton, also affectionally known as “Doc”, was born on December 23, 1958, to Mrs. Rebecca and the late Mr. Charles Locklear and the late Mr. Julius and Mrs. Thelma Hunt.

 

Welton graduated from Rowland High School with the Class of 1978. He joined the Robeson County Sheriff’s Department in 1994 as a Detention Officer and has since served in several capacities. Most recently, serving as Deputy III in the Civil Division.

 

Welton confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Annease Drive Praise and Worship Center. Serving in several capacities to include trustee. One of his favorite gospel songs was “He knows my name.”

 

Welton was preceded in death by his father Charlie Locklear and parents Julius and Thelma Hunt. Brother Cranston Sealey and his twin Delton Locklear.

 

He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Rebecca Locklear of Rowland, NC, five children: James “Justin” Chavis of Calypso, NC, Erica Locklear of Pembroke, NC, Cory Scott of Rowland, NC, Harley Oxendine and Jayden Locklear of the home.  Two grandchildren; Eneisha Aguilar and Davidson Locklear. Three sisters; Carolyn Cottle (William Earl) of Calypso NC, Eva Lois Oxendine (Clayton) of Rowland, NC and Katina Jacobs of Lumberton, NC; one brother Bruce Locklear (Doris) of Leland, NC. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Special friends; Anita Jacobs, Mike Atkinson (Fatback), Clonnie Brayboy, Vivian Hunt, Randy Lewis and Geneva Smith and a county network of colleagues.

 

Welton enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He also enjoyed time spent at church worshipping the Lord.  His favorite past times were working in his beautiful yard and helping anyone in need. Welton loved reading the bible, listening to gospel music and testifying about the goodness of Jesus. His affectionate smile will be missed. He will be remembered as a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, friend and coworker.
