David J. Markey, Sr., 75, a long-time resident of Hatfield, PA, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Abington Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Rose (Chavis) Markey, on December 11th of this year.
Born on February 28, 1945 in Philadelphia PA, he grew up in the East Falls section of the city, the son of the late Owen C. Markey, Sr. and Lillian (Wood) Markey.
As a young man working at his uncle’s service station, he discovered an aptitude for fixing things that would lead to a life-long career in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment. Through the years, he worked for International Harvester, J.I. Case, and retired as Vice President of Equipment Management at American Infrastructure of Worcester PA.
He met his future wife Carolyn while working at the service station. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on March 10th of this year.
In 1982, he graduated from the evening school of Biblical Theological Seminary in Hatfield, PA. He became an ordained minister and a respected Bible teacher. He was a faithful member and elder of Good News Church in Quakertown, PA. He was also an active member of the Christian Business Men’s Connection and was always eager to share his faith in in Jesus Christ with others.
Surviving are two sons, Rev. David J. Markey, Jr. and his wife Wendy, of Souderton PA, and James Markey and his wife Lori, of Skippack, PA; and four grandchildren: Jessica Locklear (Christian), Julia Markey, Nickolas Markey and Rachel Markey. He is also survived by a sister, Marianne MacDonald.
He was preceded in death by two siblings, Owen C. Markey, Jr. and Margaret Gest.
Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, private viewings will be held for the family at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc. of Franconia, PA, and at Revels Funeral Home in Pembroke, NC. Everyone is welcome to attend a graveside service at 11:30am on Friday, January 8, 2021, at Oxendine Cemetery in Union Chapel, NC. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in David’s memory to the Good News Church Memorial Fund, 424 Juniper St., Quakertown, PA 18951.
