Clarkie Locklear Obituary

Clarkie Locklear, affectionately known as Granny Bell, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on October 20, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Robeson County on September 3, 1941, she made her home in Rowland, NC, where her legacy of love and devotion touched countless lives.

Though she never bore children of her own, God blessed her with a set of twins who transformed her life in the most beautiful way. Granny Bell embraced motherhood with grace and unwavering commitment, becoming the heart and soul of her family.

She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Maggie and Haywood Locklear; her birth parents, Eutice and Richard Locklear, Sr.; her brothers Richard Locklear, Jr. and Ander Lee Locklear; and her sisters Cottie Lee Locklear, Jane Anderson (Jimmy), Velvadeen Oxendine, and one great, great grandson, Kylon Darius Locklear.

She leaves behind a loving family to honor her memory: brothers Jackie Locklear (Diane) and Jimmy Locklear (Belinda); sisters Carolyn Smith (Jeff) and Alice Locklear (Roger); her beloved children Vernon Locklear (Carolyn) and Vanessa Locklear (Kenny); six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Following the passing of her adoptive parents, Granny Bell stepped into the role of caregiver for Vernon and Vanessa with fierce devotion. She ensured they never went without, doing everything in her power to fulfill their every need and desire.

In her younger years, Granny Bell was an avid traveler, always eager to catch “the next thing smoking.” She cruised across the country, exploring flea markets and shopping centers at every port. But when her grandchildren arrived, her world truly blossomed. The joy and pride she felt for each one was immeasurable—her love multiplied with every new addition, including her great-great-grandchildren.

Though she never experienced childbirth, motherhood came naturally to her. Her nurturing spirit and unconditional love were instinctive and abundant.

To all who knew her, Granny Bell will remain unforgettable. Her legacy lives on in the hearts she touched and the lives she enriched.
