Charles R. Oxendine, Sr., passed away on February 19, 2026, at the age of 85.
Charles was born on October 5, 1940, and was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hester Oxendine; his beloved wife, Kim Oxendine; his siblings, including brothers Margolis Oxendine, James Oxendine, and sisters Sadie Cummings and Elzetter Lowry.
He is survived by his children, Charles R. Oxendine, Jr. and Cynthia M. Judkins; his grandson, Clint L. Judkins, Jr.; his brothers, Michael Ray Oxendine and Jerry Oxendine; and his sister, Loleta Blanks, along with extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
As a young adult, Charles was known for his beautiful country singing voice. He shared his talent with others and recorded an album under the stage name Jim Edwards, titled Jim’s Country. Music remained close to his heart throughout his life, especially gospel music, which brought him comfort and joy.
Charles spent his career working in construction, eventually owning and operating his own construction company before retiring. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and independence.
In retirement, Charles found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He loved working his garden, growing vegetables and fruit, listening to gospel music, and spending time outdoors. He was well known for his sense of humor, quick wit, and the laughter he brought to family and friends.
Above all else, Charles cherished his family and the time spent with those he loved. He will be remembered for his warm spirit, love of music, dedication to hard work, gentle humor, and devotion to family.
Funeral service and interment will be held on March 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Lumbee Memorial Gardens, 774 Moss Neck Road, Lumberton, North Carolina 28361.
