Charles Melvin Obituary
Charles David “Chuck” Melvin
A man of the open road, quiet love, and a life well lived
Charles David “Chuck” Melvin, 69, passed away on April 20, 2026.
Born July 4, 1956, to Clara Lee and Benjamin Franklin “Bennie” Melvin in Roseboro, North Carolina, Chuck’s life was marked by resilience, hard work, and a story or two that may have gotten better with each telling. After the loss of his father at a young age, his family eventually settled in Lumberton, NC. Chuck spent 32 years answering the call of the open road as a truck driver. A passion he truly loved and one that few ever find. He traveled coast to coast, mastering the roads he loved, and became known for his ability to navigate any route and always find the best way to get there whether you asked for directions or not.
Known as “Brillo” in his younger years for his curly afro, Chuck enjoyed fishing, the mountains, country and southern rock music and westerns. He rarely was without what he might need and if you needed it, chances are Chuck already had it in his pocket. He appreciated simple pleasures like a good cup of coffee, something sweet, and time outdoors. Christmas was his favorite season, often celebrated year-round much to the amusement of others. One of his proudest accomplishments was graduating high school at the age of 68, proving it’s never too late to finish what you start.
Above all, Chuck loved his family. His grandchildren were his whole world, and nothing brought him more joy than their laughter. He was known for showing up with candy, bubbles, or playdough always ready to spoil them and leave them smiling.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Victoria Melvin; sons Kevin Melvin (LeAnn) of Rowland, NC, Don Jacobs (Lani) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Brian Jacobs (Nicole) of Greenville, NC; grandchildren Lorelai and Magnolia Melvin, Austin and Taylor Jacobs, Alaqua, Angeni, and Aiyanah Jacobs; many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; brother Johnnie Michael “Mike” Melvin (Gail) of Lumberton; and sister Peggy Rhinerson (Greg) of Boonville, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Marcus Jacobs; brothers Allen Melvin and Ricky Melvin; and sisters Debrah Melvin and Helen Locklear.
Chuck will be remembered for his stories, some taller than others, his steady presence, and the quiet way he loved his family.
