Ms. Betty Jane Strickland, 80, of Rowland, NC, was born May 4, 1944, to the late Carlie and Viola Sampson in Robeson County. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Rufus Strickland, and son Michael Ray Strickland, three brothers, George B. Sampson, Carlton "Buddy" Sampson, and Charles M. Sampson, one sister, Mary Rose Sampson-Bullard, and one nephew Bo Sampson.
Betty Jane loved her family, especially spending time with her great-grandchildren. She was a faithful and devoted member of Bakers Chapel Baptist Church for 50 years where she also sang with the Bakers Chapel Quartet. Ms. Betty served at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke for 24 years. She was known over the UNC system as the "Ticket Lady".
Betty leaves to cherish her memories, son Glenn Strickland (Crystal), Betty's caregiver, daughter-in-law, Lori Strickland of Pembroke, grandchildren, Mikey Strickland (Yessi) of Star, North Carolina, Loren Brigman (Justin) of Pembroke, NC, Gabrielle Strickland of Pembroke, NC, great grandchildren, Tatianna and Liam Strickland, one brother, Ronald L. Sampson, (Jeanette) of Lumberton, NC, a special sister-in-law, Virginia Demery of Rowland, NC, a special niece, Rose Hunt, who was her nurse when she needed her most, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
