Ms. Betty Joyce Kerns Walters of Lumberton, NC was born in Robeson County on May 14, 1936. She entered into eternal rest Monday, January 6, 2025, at Duke university Hospital making her journey 88 years. Betty was the daughter of the late Clyde and Bessie Kerns. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Bryant, two brothers, Leroy Kerns and Bobby Ray Kerns, five sisters, Dora Mae Kerns Sampson, Merlene Kerns Sampson, Ellen Kerns Sampson, Lorine Kerns Peagler, and Naomi Kerns Dimery.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alesia Hunt (Lionel) of Fairmont and Ms. Veronica Bryant of Deerfield Beach, Florida, two brothers, William Gordon "Bud" Kerns, and Samuel Kerns, two sisters Velma Kerns Spaulding, and Linda Ruth Kerns Brown, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
