Mrs. Bea was a women of many talents. Brought up in rural Robeson County, North Carolina, she was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandma, family member, and friend. She was formerly employed with the textile industry in Robeson County, North Carolina, and finally with the Lumber River Council of Governments (COG) in Lumberton, North Carolina.
Mrs. Bea was a devoted wife to her husband, Mr. John D. Sweat, retired Army veteran. Some of her most treasured recollections were of their military travels, encountering various cultures. She became a family matriarch, a mother who is head and ruler of her family and descendants. Lending advice and instruction, everyone trusted her guidance. Mrs. Bea was strong willed, but compassionate, always with an objective eye on any situation. Family and friends often received her counsel while enjoying the warm sunshine, seated in the shelter of her carport. Her hospitality was further extended around the kitchen table affording delicious meals, loving fellowship, and a familial embrace that will not be forgotten. Mrs. Bea later gained new appreciation for living and an awareness of the many blessings of her life when she accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ, as her Savior during service at Reedy Branch Baptist Church in Fairmont, North Carolina. In addition to her beloved family and friends, she gained a church family and a vision for greater rewards to follow in Heaven. With humility, she said “I got saved.”
