Alice Faye Chavis Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Faye Chavis, 79, of Pembroke, NC, on September 7, 2025. Born February 10,1946, in Dillon, SC, she was the daughter of the late Hovie Curtis Lane and the late Annie Bell Lane. She was preceded in death by her late daughters, Tina Cummings and Jessica Chavis; her late granddaughter, Mia Cummings; and her late great-granddaughter, Michaela Cummings.
Alice is survived by her children and their spouses: Norma Hunt (Michael) of Pembroke, NC; Carol Oxendine (Victor) of Fayetteville, NC; and Michael Bennie Chavis, Jr. (Rachel) of Syracuse, NY. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: Betty Taylor (Grady), Hovie C. Lane (Carolyn), Jimmy Lane, and Grace Crew. She leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved her dearly.
For 30 years, Alice worked faithfully in the cafeteria of the Public Schools of Robeson County, where she was known for her dedication and warm heart. She loved attending church, cooking, and most of all, spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her giving spirit, her laughter, and the way she always cared for others before herself. To know Alice was to know kindness. She carried a gentle strength, always willing to encourage and lift others up, even in her own hardest times. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her love remains with us as a lasting gift.
