Mrs. Helen Maxilene Lowry, 75 years old, of 2334 Singletary Church Road, Lumberton, North Carolina, departed this life on November 5, 2019 at her home. She was born on January 4, 1944 to the late James Alex Smith and late Stella (Chavis) Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence Rabon Lowry. As a child, she worked in the cotton fields of Robeson County where many American Indians labored. During her childhood, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland for a brief period of time. Eventually, she moved back to Robeson County and met Clarence. She moved with Clarence to St. Louis, Missouri in 1965 where she managed apartment buildings and eventually became a homemaker. After she gave her life to Christ, she became a dedicated member of House Springs Church of God. In 1991, after Clarence’s retirement, Mrs. Lowry moved with her family back home to the Lumbee homeland. Since 1991, Mrs. Lowry has remained a dedicated member of the Riverside Church of God in Lumberton where she has taught Sunday School and served the elders of the church.
She is preceded in death by several siblings: Jackie Smith, Dwight Smith, Ronald Smith, Kenneth Smith, Stelford Smith, Vivian (Smith) Allen, and James Eyrtle Smith
Memories of Mrs. Lowry are cherished by her son David Shane Lowry and daughter-in-law Nichol Brewer-Lowry; her daughter Gwendolyn Sue Lowry; her daughter Regena Rae Lowry; her daughter Rose Marie Lowry-Sanderson and son-in-law Randy Sanderson; four grandchildren (Sarah, Adam, Rachel, and Timothy); two great-grandchildren (Logan and Brayden); her sister Lethia (Smith) Hunt; and her brother Gary Smith.
