Haywood Eugene Dellinger

Haywood Eugene “Gene” Dellinger, 88, of Pembroke, passed away September 12, 2017 at Southeastern Hospice House surrounded by his family.   

He was born February 10, 1929 to the late Charlie and Ella Dellinger.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Dellinger; siblings Frances, Howard, Charles, and Katherine.   

He leaves to cherish in his memories; his son Tony Dellinger (Rhonda) of Pembroke; his two grandchildren; Erica Atkinson (Adam) and Elicia Dellinger; his great granddaughter, Elin Harper Atkinson; his brother Cecil Dellinger of Garner and his sister Ruth Core of Smithfield, Virginia. 

Gene served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 as a Military Police Officer. Following his return from the war, Gene worked at Ward Real Estate Company in Raleigh, North Carolina. He later relocated to Lenoir, North Carolina and worked at Triplett’s Furniture Fashions as Manager.

Even when faced with unexpected obstacles in his life, Gene continued to persevere and will always be remembered by the warm smile on his face.  Gene was an avid NC State fan who enjoyed puzzles and anything sweet, especially chocolate.
