Byde Lawrence Blanks

      Mr. Byde Lawrence Blanks was born April 6, 1925 in Bladen County to the late Samuel and Avey Spaulding Blanks.  On June 11, 2018, at the age of 93, he entered into eternal rest with the Lord.

       Byde attended Porterville School in Bladen County.  He had fond memories of his school and always stressed the importance of education. Byde was employed with Southeastern General Hospital and retired in 1987.  He worked as a farmer from an early age and continued to farm part-time while employed with the hospital. 

     Byde was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and gardening.  He was a member of the Elkton Hunting Club. 

      Byde accepted Christ and joined Pleasant Meadow Missionary Baptist Church.  He served faithfully until his health began to decline.  Although he was homebound, he continued to provide support to the church and offer words of wisdom to those who came to visit or called him.  He never complained during the time of his sickness.  His courage lifted the spirits of others, He always said something humorous followed by his signature laugh without making a sound. Byde was a devoted servant of God and always found time to help those in need.  He served as a deacon, usher and a member of the sick and shut-in committee of Pleasant Meadow Church.  Byde visited the sick on a regular basis to offer words of encouragement.  His dedication made a positive impact on the community.  He was a man of few words, spoke softly, but said a lot if you listened.  Most of all, he was a man of is word who was well respected. 

    In addition to this parents, Byde was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lillie Howell Blanks; sisters, Eunice Blanks White Wooten, Amelia Blanks Campbell, Lena Mae Blanks Spaulding and Fannie Blanks Logan; brothers, Wesley Blanks, Lewis Blanks, Edward Blanks and Joe Blanks.

    Left to Cherish his memories are Ann Thomas of Lumberton, North Carolina, who he and his wife raised as their daughter; a sister, Emaline Blanks Hopkins of Columbia, Maryland and a host of nieces and nephews.
