John Edward Cain was born in Maxton, North Carolina on November 27, 1951. He was a long-time member of the Maxton community and graduated from Maxton High School in 1970. After completing high school, John furthered his education by attending Kittrell College. Following his time in college, John enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He served his country honorably and was discharged from the military with gratitude.
While stationed in Germany, John experienced a significant spiritual transformation. He converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and embraced the teachings of the faith wholeheartedly. His commitment to the LDS Church became the cornerstone of his life, and he was actively involved in supporting and uplifting the church community.
John was preceded in death by his loving parents, Wilbert Cain Sr. and Ella B. Cain. He is survived by his devoted sons, Sherman Calhoun (Lakisha) and Edward Cain (Charlene), as well as his cherished daughters, Erica Goins (Anthony) and Eunice Shelton (Byron). John leaves behind a legacy of love and family, with 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren who will always hold him close in their hearts.
In addition to his children and grandchildren, John is survived by his brother, Dr. Wilbert Cain Jr (Brenda), his sister, Jacqueline Esule, his nephew, George Esule, and his nieces, Gina Cain-Tate, Gillian Cain-Brown, and Karina Esule. John's impact on his family and community will forever be remembered, and his presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
