Sarah Locklear Lowery, 88, a longtime resident of Robeson County, died Tuesday, February 20, at her home.
Born in 1930 in Fairmont, N.C., Sarah received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Pembroke State College. She was one of the first 500 graduates and is featured in the Heritage Walk in front of Old Main on the campus of the present UNC-Pembroke. Sarah taught elementary school in the Baltimore City Schools as well as the Public Schools of Robeson County, retiring in 1987.
Sarah love to read, crochet, and celebrate holidays and milestones with her family. She was also quite fond of fishing.
She was preceded in death by Jasper Locklear (father), Lonnie Mae Locklear (mother), and 2 brothers - H. B. Locklear and Rodney Locklear.
Sarah is survived by her daughters Revonda Lowery and Cathy Graham - husband Vincent, and a son Joseph Dean Lowery - wife Janine, all whom live in Pembroke, N.C. Also surviving are 4 grandsons - Joshua Lowery, Jamison Lowery, Jeremy Lowery, and Peyton Graham, all of Pembroke; a special niece Margaret Taylor who was like a daughter, of Fairmont; and a special lifelong friend Juanita Graham.
