Mrs. Rosie Mae Chavis, 97 of 734 Piney Grove Rd. Lumberton, NC went home to be with her heavenly father Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
Ms. Chavis was born to late Mr. and Mrs. Winston and Bessie Carter January 24, 1921. She was a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church. She loved working in her yard and garden. She was an employee at B.F. Goodrich her GED from RCC in 2003. When her children and grandchildren were in school, she loved going to their events especially Basketball and Baseball at Magnolia High School and South Robeson High School. She also loved cooking for friends and family.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, James I. Chavis; her parents, Mr. Winston Carter (father) and Mrs. Bessie Carter (Mother). A daughter, Ethel M. Jacobs and a son, James L. Chavis. Two son – n- laws, Marshall Jacobs and Woodrow Dial Jr. and a grandson, Johnny R. Jacobs. Her brothers, Stacy Carter, Lacy Carter, Brady Carter, Willie L. Cater, Spaulding Cater, Wilton Cater, Willis L. Cater.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories to her children, Lizzie M. Frew (Russell) of Red Lion, PA, Allene Bell (Horace) of Lumberton, NC. Howard Chavis (Carolyn) of Lumberton, NC., Joyce Dial of Conway, SC, Roy D. Chavis (Jackie) of Lumberton, NC., and Roger D. Chavis (Wanda) of Lumberton, N. Her three grandchildren she raised; Roger D. Chavis Jr. (Chantel) of the homes, Glenn Bell (Joann) of Lumberton, and Jeffery Chavis (Sharon) of Lumberton, NC, a sister Ressie M. Carter of Lumberton and two brother –n- laws, Houston Chavis and Bennie Chavis; two special nieces, Mary E. Kellogg and Sandra K. Chavis; 23 grandchildren; 45 great- grandchildren and 38 great-great- grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
